Last week I headed out to explore Mumbai. I found this particular street which caught my attention and certainly triggered train of thoughts.
Nothing famous about this street; no tourist, nor photographers or the attention from the jaywalkers. But here was the eclectic art that moved me. The walls of the streets were covered with infamous Graffiti art. I had to take a moment to appreciate the art, and the creativity put into.
Who are these artist? Are they getting paid? Art was actual beautifying the street. Isn't that the essence of civilization?
Since we are not robots, we need emotions and gratifications to make us feel real. Year after year, generations after generations we make sure all these emotions are properly fed, even with the changing dynamics of the brain. A few centuries ago, maybe, humans put stones in a circle and called it an art. But now we need more; vivid colors, textures, strokes and even we started paying attention to the canvas or backdrops.
Maybe Graffiti is a by-product of the 21st century, it's fast-paced and the results and appreciation are instantaneous, exactly what the millennials crave for. By supporting this infamous expression of speech, I'm in no way endorsing or encouraging vandalism but trying to appreciate the creativity of an artist.
Consider this, keeping all physical attributes same, one kilogram of gold costs exactly the same as one kilo of gold. 1 kg of gold = 1 kg of gold, 1 kg of rice = 1 kg of rice. Recently I found this bookstore, books are sold by the measure of weight. Even if all physical attributes are exactly the same (like paper GSM, bind, etc.)1 kilo of certain books is not the same as 1 kg certain other books. Here the thoughts or creativity has more economical value. Maybe that's the economic face of the art world. Being an engineer, it was hard for me to contemplate, books being weighed exact and cost different.
Doing research on Graffiti I read somewhere, its endless art, without a conclusion. The artist can restart where he has left off and can give a completely different prospect to his past creation. So I'm going to end this, without properly concluding this. Who knows, someday I come back to this page and
